WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

Define as simulates human intelligence such as the ability to reason and learn and typically can learn or understand from experience , make sense of ambiguous or contradictory information and use reasoning to solve problems and make decisions. 

Artificial intelligence can be categories as :-

• EXPERT SYSTEM : computerized advisory programs that imitate the reasoning processes of experts in solving difficult problems.To create an expert system, a computer scientist interviews an expert on a subject, such as nuclear power plant safety. During the interview, the scientist gleans heuristics, or rules of thumb, from the expert. The scientist then codes this knowledge into a program. The program asks questions about a nuclear safety situation, and based on the responses it gets, gives an assessment and possible courses of action. Since you can examine the program's reasoning process, you can check its quality and make improvements.

• NEURAL NETWORK : attempts to emulate the way the human brain works. It's also to establish patterns and characteristics in situations where the logic or rules is unknown. It's also composed of interconnecting artificial neurons (programming constructs that mimic the properties of biological neurons) for solving artificial intelligence problems without creating a model of a real system. The goal of artificial networks is good, or human-like and predictive ability.

• Genetic Algorithm : Genetic Algorithms are adaptive heuristic search algorithm premised on the evolutionary ideas of natural selection and genetic. The basic concept of Genetics Algorithms is designed to simulate processes in natural system necessary for evolution, specifically those that follow the principles first laid down by Charles Darwin of survival of the fittest. As such they represent an intelligent exploitation of a random search within a defined search space to solve a problem.Example, the computer follows a set of instructions in order to solve a problem. Unless the specific steps that the computer needs to follow are known the computer cannot solve the problem.That restricts the problem solving capability of conventional computers to problems that we already understand and know how to solve. But computers would be so much more useful if they could do things that we don't exactly know how to do. 

INTELLIGENCE AGENT:  Entity which observes through sensors and acts upon an environment using actuators  and directs its activity towards achieving goals . Intelligent agents may also learn or use knowledge to achieve their goals. They may be very simple or very complex: a reflex machine such as a thermostat is an intelligent agent, as is a human being, as is a community of human beings working together towards a goal.  It will work to obtain optimum packages for its customers.
